brush with not-so-greatness

Been at a conference in Dearborn this week. It's the MEA's Bargaining and PR conference. Good stuff. Haven't been riding the KLR into Dearborn (it's about 40-45 miles), but have been riding to where we meet to carpool. Yesterday it started snowing HARD about a half hour before the ride. I'm glad I hadn't decided to ride all the way to the conference. The roads were covered with about an inch of icy, slick snow. Gnarly, for sure, but it was about 6 am, so there were hardly any cars out.

One cool thing is that we got to see US senator Debbie Stabenau (sp?) speak at lunch, and Michigan's governor Granholm. I'm not much for the politician/celebrity thing, but we jumped in for a handshake and photo op. Never met a governor before. Of course, I've never really wanted to. Here's the crappy pic, taken with a camera phone...
