order yours now!

Yesterday was another beautiful spring day. Rather than do all of the things that need doing around my house, I though I'd do some maintenance on the KLR.

Actually, I really only did one thing to it. Last time I measured the fork oil level, I measured it with the forks extended. You're supposed to measure the fork oil with the forks fully COMPRESSED. So, for the past few weeks I've been riding around on ultra-stiff forks and endangering my fork seals with every pothole hit.

I got set up in my workshop, and set up my ultra high-tech bike stand. Once the bike was up on the stand, I took out the fork springs and used my super-precision fork oil measurer. If you are interested in purchasing either my patented bike stand or fork oil tool, send me an email ;-)

I also messed around with my petcock, to see if it is the cause of my surging problems. Seems the nozzle connecting the fuel hose to the carb is loose, and comes off if you pull the hose just right (like when taking the tank off). So, I went out to Nicholson's to ask for some advice. The guy there agreed that that could be the cause of the surging, and if not, the petcock shouldn't do that anyway, that piece should stay put. So, I ordered a new petcock.

I don't usually like to order from the dealership. I do get things from them from time to time though. They've been helpful with advice, and actually done more than they needed to on occasion. I figure It'd be good to buy parts from them at least when I don't need the part right away, and/or when the part will be the same price from the dealership as from Fred or BikeBandit or whoever.

Next weekend I'll be throwing the new petcock on and see if that solves my surging and rough running issues.
